There is no arguing that Chip and Joanna Gaines are currently the king and queen of the home décor world. Their show, Fixer Upper, has homeowners all over the country wishing they could hire the couple to give their home that now infamous farmhouse-style makeover or has inspired thousands to take on the task themselves. The thing with trends though, is that they come and go and what seems like a great idea now may not necessarily be what you like in a few years, let alone a decade or two from now.
The plus side of this current farmhouse trend is that farmhouses have been around for centuries and they have never really “gone out of style” per se-they just haven’t always been on the forefront of home trends until recently. A decade ago it seemed like every home in America was having its interior walls painted some shade of beige and being furnished with dark wood furniture. These days, its all about the “less is more” and keeping everything light and bright while still evoking a cozy and inviting feel. While this is a common trend right now, it is also a style that doesn’t really go out of style. Most of the paint colors still fall within a neutral category that pair well with many styles and colors of home furnishings; think greys, beiges, whites, off-whites, and muted blues or greens.
Painting your walls, cabinets, and the outside of your home are great ways to start the process of achieving that farmhouse style you may be after. If you have ideas or inspiration, we would love to see them and turn them into a reality! Or if you are completely lost as to where to begin and what colors would work best, that is where our professional crew can make suggestions. Whether the farmhouse trend is here to stay or starts to fizzle out, it is a classic look that will always have its place and works well when combined with other styles.
